Stuart is an optometrist with a specialty in students with learning disabilities and is the founder of Vision For Learning Ltd. He has developed a system for diagnosing and treating visual and auditory deficits associated with learning delays including dyslexia.

Goals

Visual and auditory skills that are learned and can be improved with training. Stuart wanted to create an iPad application as a high quality test that could be used by anyone from parents to educational professionals or researchers. It was to be designed to be used on all students especially those with learning difficulties or dyslexia.

Results

We worked closely with Stuart to understand the medical goals of the app. The iPad app had precisely timed tests for measuring eye tracking and low level sensory perceptual skills in students 7 to 17 years of age some of the tests included Eye Tracking – relates to reading errors. Visual Span – relates to reading speed. Visual Count – relates to number concept. Visual Spatial – relates to orientation and direction. Auditory – relates to hearing word sounds. Some of the other features also included a database for schools and learning support with full summary report of scores including Pass/Borderline/Fail. Stuart was thrilled with the final outcome and it went on trials on schools all over the country to assist in diagnosing students with learning difficulties and turned out to be a true medical revolution.
